Welcome boost for Gambling Expert Cadre |
||
The capability of the Force's Gambling Expert Cadre has been given a welcome boost with the addition of 18 officers who completed a Gambling Expert Training Course at the Police Training School last month. Being volunteers selected for the course, the officers recently received their certificates from Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CIB) Superintendent Pat Laidler at the conclusion of three weeks' intensive training. During the course, the officers received training on theory and practice, gambling methods, illegal gambling, bookmaking, betting rules of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) and relevant legislation. They also presented study projects and took part in mock court exercises. Detective Senior Inspector Dave Wan of CIB and his staff arranged the training course, with valuable input from Narcotics Bureau's Financial Investigations Division, Prosecutions Division of the Department of Justice, HKJC and a certified Gambling Counsellor. DSIP Wan said he was "extremely impressed" by the enthusiasm of all the participants and their willingness to take on the extra responsibility of a Gambling Expert. The latest intake has brought the strength of the Force Gambling Expert Cadre to 54 officers, who are ready to assist frontline officers and the courts.
