Over 100 officers from Special Duties Squads from Regions and Districts recently had valuable exchanges on the tactics and difficulties of handling confidential human intelligence sources in respect of information on illicit drugs. At two experience-sharing sessions held by Narcotics Bureau (NB) at POC, NB Chief Superintendent Ip Lau-chuen and NB Senior Superintendent John Ribeiro briefed the audiences on the latest drug situation. At the end of the sessions, the participants thanked NB officers for arranging the experience-sharing exercise and imparting their knowledge and experience, with a round of loud applause. Detective Chief Inspector Steve Lam Chun-ming from NB's Intelligence Division, who arranged the event, said it was very gratifying to see "such keen interaction with some very interesting matters and practical concerns raised" by the participants. "Overall, it was a very fruitful experience sharing exercise for all concerned," he added. The experience sharing exercise came in the wake of the successful psychotropic substances train-the-trainer workshop and methamphetamine ("ice") manufacturing seminar organised by NB in April, all of which showed NB is committed to raising officers' awareness of illicit drugs and working in unison with Regions and Districts in tackling drug trafficking and abuse. |
