The Guangzhou Customs District handed over to Marine Region on September 7 $1.8 million worth of goods reportedly stolen in a robbery case onboard a barge off Tuen Mun in February.

Marine Regional Commander Au Hok-lam received from the Deputy Director General of the Guangzhou Customs District, Mr Chen Jianwen, seven 20-feet-long containers containing an assortment of goods.

The robbery reportedly occurred about 9 pm on February 19 when several culprits jumped onto a barge berthed 200 metres off the Tuen Mun River Trade Terminal and tied up and pushed a 52-year-old male crew member into a storeroom. They then used the derrick onboard to lift seven containers containing illuminations, mint products, linen, processed food and enamelled tiles, onto a get-away vessel.

Thanks to the close co-operation and liaison between Hong Kong and Guangdong, officers from the Guangzhou Customs District discovered the stolen goods at the sea off the Qa'o Island near Nei Ling Ding Dao in the small hours of the following day.
