Waterfront Power formed |

Some 50 officers of Waterfront Police Station have formed a voluntary service group called "Waterfront Power". The group's slogan is: "Waterfront's colleagues, come and join; show your power and serve the community". A ceremony was held on August 26 to mark the voluntary group's birth. Officiating at the ceremony were Central District Commander Chau Kwok-leung, Deputy District Commander Noel Howcroft, and Waterfront Divisional Commander Tang Ping-keung, all of whom addressed the gathering and gave words of encouragement. Immediately after the ceremony, the members of "Waterfront Power" went to Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park for its first mission - helping out in "The Hungry Ghosts Festival" rice handout to the elderly. With memories of the uncontrollable crowds in a recent similar handout still fresh in mind, the group members maintained close liaison with both the event organisers and colleagues of Western District to avoid any unpleasant incidents. Although the weather was unstable with intermittent sunshine and rain, the members still showed a lot of compassion and care to the elderly and assisted them in whatever ways they could, earning a letter of appreciation by the organisers. "Waterfront Power" will certainly offer more voluntary services to live up to its slogan.
