The Police Tennis Club, under its captain Senior Superintendent Ko Chi-ming, toured Thailand and Singapore to slug it out with their overseas counterparts between August 9 and 17.

The tournament among the regional law enforcers dates back to the 80's. This year's tour marks the 16th and 17th encounters of the Police Tennis Club with the Thai and Singaporean forces respectively.

Both ties were played under sweltering hot days. Fielding their strongest players, the in form and acclimatized Thai team frustrated the Hong Kong side after rounds of tight matches. On the second leg of the tour, the Hong Kong team salvaged some pride by prevailing over the Singaporean squad.

While being unable to find time to head the tour, our sports loving Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai did fly to Bangkok for a couple of days to take part in the "Clash of the Titans" against Police General Napodol of the Royal Thai Police. This closely fought match kept supporters from both sides on the edge of their seats.

Mr Lee also took time out to visit the Thai Tsunami Victim Identification Centre in Phuket to observe its operation with several senior officers, namely Kowloon West Regional Commander Lo Yik-kee and SSPs Ko Chi-ming and Cheung Chun-por.

New members are welcomed to join the Police Tennis Club. Those interested may browse the club's web site on POINT and download the membership application form. Enquires can be made to the club's secretary, Senior Inspector Simon Kam Chi-siu on 2767-1501.
