Officers and youths deliver care

The Tin Shui Wai Police Soccer Volunteers Team and Sheng Kung Hui recently carried out an "Operation Sky Horse" to bring care and warmth to the elderly living in solitude in public housing estates in Tin Shui Wai.

On the day of their visit, police volunteer workers teamed up with some youths at risk arranged by Sheng Kung Hui to push a cart loaded with rice and woollen clothes for the elderly to Tin Chi Estate. The youths felt both bewildered and happy - bewildered because they were participating in voluntary work for the first time and hardly knew the ways to communicate with the elderly. On the other hand, they were happy of being able to make a small contribution to society and gain some recognition. The operation marked a big step in their lives - shaking off their label to become voluntary workers in the eyes of the elderly men and women they visited.

Senior Inspector Yeung Pang-hoi, TSWDIV Task Force OC, who organised and coordinated the delivery of food and clothing, commented: "This activity has served two purposes. Besides saving the poor, weak, and needy the troubles of queuing for rice, it makes the youths at risk realise that giving is a more blessed act than receiving."
