Narcotics Bureau (NB) presented prizes to winners of Anti-drug Pioneer Image Design and Anti-drug Slogan Design competitions at Police Headquarters on October 15. The competitions aimed at promoting the Bureau's image and disseminating anti-drug messages.

The event was part of NB's persistent efforts in recent years to promote internal communication within the Force and work in partnership with the community to combat drugs. To effectively counter drug abuse, prevention publicity is every bit as essential as vigorous enforcement actions. NB has thus maintained close liaison with other drug-combating agencies and police units in order to build up communication channels and raise anti-drug publicity and awareness. Apart from the competitions, a number of workshops and seminars have also been organised for Force members.

Response to the competitions, which were held in August, was enthusiastic with over 60 entries received for the image design category and more than 300 for the slogan design category, including many outstanding creative works by police officers, civilian staff and family members of police officers.

The entries were shortlisted to 30 in each category at the first stage selection by NB's Public Relations Working Group to vie for the championship at the Final-cum-Presentation Ceremony. The shortlisted entries were presented before an adjudicating panel consisting of Acting Commissioner for Narcotics, Miss Chui Hiu-lo, Chairman of the Sub-committee on Preventive Education and Publicity of the Action Committee Against Narcotics, Dr Tam Wing-kun, Acting Chief Superintendent of NB, Mr John Ribeiro, who later presented awards to the winners.

Family members of the shortlisted participants were also present at the ceremony, where booths and a photo display were set up to introduce NB, and the videotape footage of NB's 50th anniversary was also played.
