Soccer school marches on |

Development of Operation Breakthrough's Summer Soccer School has taken another step forward when Phase II of the programme commenced on October 15, with 15 boys from Tuen Mun District joining the programme. The new comers have formed a team to play 11-a-side games over the next 19 weeks against the boys from eight other teams who earlier received coaching from Arsenal Soccer Schools coaches and played in a mini-soccer league during Phase I of the programme. The Phase II development is aimed at enabling the boys to practice what they have learned from the soccer coaches in Phase I. In addition to competitive games, all the boys are being given further soccer coaching and fitness training during Phase II. Funding for the Phase II, estimated at over $100,000, will be met by donations made to Operation Breakthrough at recent functions, including the British Chamber of Commerce Boxing Smoker, which raised $375,000 for Operation Breakthrough. Meanwhile in recognition of the achievements of the boys involved in Phase I, a presentation ceremony was held at Wong Tai Sin Police Station on November 5 when Wong Tai Sin District Commander Ian Seabourne presented certificates to the boys, together with Mr Ed Fordham of Arsenal Soccer Schools.
