PC wins the day in Boxing Smoker
Although PC Tsang had recently come back to Hong Kong with a Bronze medal from the World Police and Fire Games, his opponent this time was a very tough and classy fighter who has never been beaten before.
As expected, the fight was a tremendous battle of guts, skill and determination. The Jamaican forced the early action by continually coming forward with all guns blazing. PC Tsang boxed cleverly in reply, stepping out of the way of his rushes and scoring with long-range jabs and right crosses to the head.
At the end of the second round, the Jamaican brought the 600 spectators to their feet with a well executed attack to the body and head of PC Tsang, clearly hurting the Tai Po constable with some heavy shots as he lay against the ropes.
"This guy is really tough!" remarked PC Tsang as he slumped onto his corner stool at the end of the second.
The final round was a truly epic one with both boxers landing heavy blows in order to establish their dominance. Eventually, in the last minute of the fight, the superior fitness and boxing skills of PC Tsang began to tell, as he continually hammered powerful shots into the face of the gallant, but clearly exhausted Jamaican. The decision of all three judges went to a jubilant PC Tsang who praised his tough opponent for a great fight.
"George fought very well and had me in trouble," PC Tsang said, "but with colleagues sitting at ringside ...... there was just no way I was going to allow myself to lose!"
The Boxing Smoker, held at Hong Kong Football Club, and in aid of Operation Breakthrough, was a spectacular success. The capacity crowd generously donated $385,000 to this worthwhile cause.
