Before seeing the media, the Commissioner attended a Security Panel meeting in the morning of January 24 to brief Legislative Councillors on the state of crime in 2005. On the same day, the Commissioner wrote to Consul Generals, professional bodies and community leaders. In return, the Commissioner received a number of congratulations on the further improvement in law and order in 2005. Messages of support for the Force mainly came from Consul Generals, Principal Officials, Chambers of Commerce and dignitaries; both in Hong Kong and overseas. They were pleased to see the fall in reported crime and supportive of the Force's operational targets for the year. Many noted in particular the professionalism and tolerance displayed by Force members during the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference. The Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose Lee, has written to the Commissioner stating that he was most impressed with how well the Force rose to the many challenges in 2005 and that this had not gone unnoticed by the community.
