Kowloon West Region recorded a significant drop in the overall crime rate in 2005 over that in 2004. Apart from the Region's own efforts in preventing and fighting crime, public support has played a part in achieving this encouraging result. To recognise the role played by security personnel, Kowloon West Regional Crime Prevention Office has launched the Kowloon West Best Security Services Awards 2005, in conjunction with the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies Limited and the Security & Guarding Services Industry Authority, The award scheme also aims at promoting a higher standard of services in the security industry, boosting security personnel's morale and motivating them to continue to work in partnership with the Region in its efforts to further reduce crime and provide a safe living environment in Kowloon West. Details of the scheme were announced by Kowloon West Regional Crime Prevention Officer Woman Chief Inspector Chui Yui-luen, Security & Guarding Services Industry Authority Chairman Edward Pong Chong, and Chairman of the Education and Training Committee of the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies Limited, Johnnie C. K. Chan, at a media briefing held in a Kowloon hotel last month.
