Police Homepage at Government Website (Internet)
Currently, the Police Homepage provides key Force information to the public through the Internet. CSP PPRB is responsible for co-ordinating the update of the Homepage content, and ACP IS (SP EPOL) provides technical support for the actual content update in accordance with a laid down schedule. ACP IS (SP EPOL) will also enhance the Police Homepage as and when necessary. Content update co-ordination will commence in August each year, with the new version of Police Homepage to be released by April the following year.
Formation Webpages (Intranet)
At present, the Formation Webpages on POINT exceed 200,000 pages. As such, there is a need to consolidate and improve the content management of these webpages to ensure that up-to-date information in relation to Formations can be retrieved effectively and efficiently.
EPOL Division has developed a Web Content Management System (WCMS), in the form of 12 webpage templates, with a view to enhancing corporate image and making browsing and retrieving information much easier.
ACP IS (SP EPOL) will launch the WCMS in phases and co-ordinate technical support for setting up the initial webpages. From now until 2007, the Force will provide two tiers of formation webpages. Tier One webpages include the CP's Office and all Major Formations' webpages. The CP's Office has been updated by using one of the webpage templates since January 2005. Personnel and Training Wings also regularly update their webpages on employee services and learning, and do not require further standardisation. In 2006, ACP IS (SP EPOL) will liaise with the web administrators of other Major Formations to update their webpages using these standardised templates.
Tier Two, which is to be completed in 2006-07, consists of webpages for Formations at CSP or SSP command level. Updating of content using appropriate templates will be arranged in due course. Separate webpages for Formations at SP or Divisional command level will not be maintained and such contents are to be incorporated into the Tier Two webpages.
Web Administrator and Approval Officer
After introduction of WCMS, MFCs and FCs are responsible for the content management of their webpages and will direct either quarterly or annual updates, deleting outdated information. They are required to lay down a schedule and appoint web administrators, preferably civilian or support personnel, in EO rank or equivalent, to update their webpages. Each Major Formation and Formation will identify an Approval Officer (CIP and above) who will sign off on the content and the interface of a webpage before publication Force-wide. The Approval Officers are to ensure that there is no content duplication between webpages and databases. Should certain information stored in databases needs to be displayed on webpages as well, hyperlinks from webpages to databases will apply.
