Acting Chief Superintendent John Ribeiro and Superintendent Lam Man-wing of the Narcotics Bureau attended the Eleventh Asia-Pacific Operational Drug Enforcement Conference (ADEC-XI) as speakers between February 7 and 10, at the invitation of the Japan National Police Agency in Tokyo.

The themes of ADEC-XI focused on international trafficking in crystallised methamphetamine in the Asia-Pacific region, and on tracing the flow of proceeds back to drug sources, and the influx of ecstasy tablets, cannabis and cocaine to the Asia-Pacific region. Mr Ribeiro chaired one of the three sessions related to the flow of drug proceeds, while Mr Lam gave a presentation on the new trends during the session.

ADEC was established in 1996 to institutionalise regional co-operation among high-ranking drug law enforcement officials. Attending the ADEC-XI conference were 100 high level delegates from 28 countries, two jurisdictions and one international organisation. The conference has served as an international forum for fostering international co-operation by exchanging knowledge and information.
