Over 100 Force members took part in the 2005 Police Annual Swimming Gala held at the Tsuen Wan Shing Mun Valley Swimming Complex on January 21. This annual event had been postponed for two months because of officers' duty commitments for the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference. Despite a temperature of only nine degrees Celsius and drizzle, the atmosphere in the complex was extremely warm as swimmers competed in 34 events and were cheered on by the cheering teams from their formations. On hand to lend support were guest of honour, Deputy Commissioner (Management) Fung Siu-yuen and other invited guests like Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Lee Ka-chiu (Chairman of Police Sports Council), Regional Commander New Territories North Cheung Siu-wah (Vice-chairman of Police Sports Council), Assistant Commissioner (Service Quality) Wong Doon-yee, and Chief Superintendent Wong Fook-chuen (Chairman of Police Swimming Club). Police Tactical Unit Headquarters carried away the Men's Overall Formation Championship, while Kowloon City ranked as 1st Runner-up. Women's Overall Formation Championship went to Commercial Crime Bureau and KC DIST came second. CCB also retained the trophies for Best Participating Unit and Best Cheering Unit. Intense competitions saw a draw of points by Chief Inspector Ho Ka-fei of C&IIB, Chief Inspector Kwok Yam-yung of PTU HQ and Police Constable Lee Chun-lim of Yuen Long District, sharing the honour of "Victor Ludorum" (for Men's Overall Individual Champion). Competition was equally intense for the title of 'Victrix Ludorum' (for Women's Overall Individual Champion), which was shared by Woman Senior Inspector Choi Nga-wing of CCB and Woman Police Constable Cheng Wai-nei of Shum Shui Po District. Apart from Force members and their families, various champion swimming teams from Government departments, universities and colleges also took part in the swimming gala. The Fire Services Department won the Inter-Departmental Relay whereas the Hong Kong Polytechnic University carried away the Gold medal of the Inter-University Invitation Relay with a record-breaking time of 1'42"03 over their old record of 1'44"60. The title of Inter-College Relay went to Saint Francis Secondary School. Besides the exciting events, the demonstration of "Fin Swimming" by the Police Diving Club was also a hit with the hundreds of spectators.
