Logo and slogan contests conclude

On February 18, officers and guests gathered for the adjudication and award presentation ceremony for the Knowledge Management (KM) Logo and Slogan Competitions, as well as the Building a Caring Workforce Slogan Competition.

The ceremony was opened by Director of Management Services Mike Dowie and the judging of the three competitions was carried out by the audience, using a personal response system.

Award winners were then presented with certificates and book coupons by Mr Dowie and Assistant Commissioner (Service Quality) Wong Doon-yee. Mr Trevor Lui, Secretary of the Knowledge Management Development Centre, awarded certificates of merit to the remaining finalists.

Mr Dowie commended the high quality of all of the entries, as well as the considerable effort that had gone into the design of the logos and slogans. The entries for the Building a Caring Workforce Slogan Competition were particularly impressive with 368 entries received from formations following the living-the-values workshop for JPOs and Inspectorate officers in 2005. The enthusiastic response and high quality of entries show the high level of support and commitment of officers in building a caring workforce.

The KM Logo and Slogan Competitions were held to help raise awareness of, and give a Force identity to, this critical project, which is entering the final stages of being implemented, force-wide. "The concept of Knowledge Management, of all officers effectively learning from each other's experiences, is an essential step towars becoming a learning organisation, and I think the entries on display have really captured this concept," said Mr Wong Doon-yee.

The winning entries will help enhance internal communications on these subjects, both of which form the central parts of the Force's pursuit of service quality. The winning and runners-up entries are given below.

The design comes from the idea of a book, which contains a wealth of knowledge. The logo is in 3 parts. Upper part is the front cover of the book, which is derived from letter 'K', representing 'Knowledge'. The side of the book is on the left and it is derived from letter 'M', symbolising 'Management'. Finally for the 'Pages' part, the words 'Knowledge Management' written in both Chinese and English actually link everything together.
