The Crime Prevention Bureau (CPB) recently paid recognition to six security companies for their contribution to reducing false alarms last year under the Bureau's Phased Response Scheme (PRS).

The Bureau implemented PRS in April 2004 to tackle the problem of wastage of police resources responding to false alarms. At present there are 25 security companies with Central Alarm Monitoring Stations (CAMS) supporting nearly 27,000 subscribers.

CPB runs two award categories for security companies with CAMS, one for CAMS with 100 to 500 subscribers, and one for CAMS with more than 500 subscribers.

At a presentation ceremony, Chief Superintendent (Crime Support) Ng Kam-wing presented Gold, Silver and Bronze certificates to the three companies in each category with the lowest ratio of false alarms per subscriber in 2005.

As a result of the joint efforts of CPB's Intruder Alarms Inspection Unit and security companies such as the award recipients, the incidence of false alarms has fallen considerably. At the end of 2005, the ratio stood at 0.77 per alarm installation, a major improvement over the ratio of 1.09 per alarm installation before implementation of PRS.
