The Force has accumulated a wealth of knowledge stored at either databases or webpages. By using POWER, you will have one-stop-shop service to get access to all OPEN information owned by various Major Formations and Formations by simply clicking hexagons. For restricted databases, their name will be displayed at hexagon and be marked with a "#" symbol. You will not be able to access them directly as they require PEN to perform access control. All such restricted information is listed at icon of Database (Restricted), which is shown at the top of Force Welcome Page at PEN.
2. How can I retrieve information from POWER?
Information retrieval is simple at POWER, as information is organised into different Major Formations/Formations according to the Force structure and various Categories/Subcategories in accordance with the result from Force-wide Categorisation Exercise. The organisation of information enables you to retrieve information by browsing in the way of either Formation or Topic, and the Formation navigation flow is the default one. To get to the Topic navigation flow, you just simply click the tab of Topic under the Police crest.
These two navigation flows enable you to retrieve information efficiently and effectively. For example, if you wish to check ACP SQ's Standing Order, you may get to Service Quality under the department of Management Service and then get the standing order. However, if you are looking for all standing orders of the Force, you may get to the Topic Navigation Flow and select headquarter level or regional district level standing order from Manuals and Order, followed by clicking the respective hexagons. To make it even effectively, you can also refer to SiteMap for checking the database.
If you do not know at which database that specific information is stored, you can go to Search Engine from POWER and enter the keywords. By doing so, you will be able to retrieve information that contains the keywords and related information for reference.
3. How can I navigate POWER?
One of the features of POWER is mouse-over. When your mouse is moved over the menus or hexagons, their sub-levels will be displayed for you to choose making it more effectively to browse. When your mouse is moved away, the sub-menus or hexagons that are displayed after mouse-over will disappear for you to click other hexagons.
In case you are at the third level, which is the last level of POWER, and wish to go back to the previous level(s), what you need to do is simply clicking the hexagon, which you come from, and it will direct you to the previous level(s).
4. What is the meaning of "+" at Hexagons?
In POWER, you will sometimes see hexagons with a "+" sign underneath. Such a sign implies that the hexagon contains sub-level or next level. You can either mouse-over it to browse its sub-level or click it to go to the next level.
5. What should I do if I want webpages/databases to be displayed at POWER?
If you do not find webpages/databases from POWER, you can go to SiteMap to check. If you cannot find it there, it could be due to the fact that the databases that you are looking for are still undergoing migration exercise.
Furthermore, if you wish to display some information at POWER, you can submit a request listing the link of the webpage or the database to the PEN account of km-admin, who will then create hexagons for displaying the required webpage/databases for you.
6. Whom should I contact
if I have problem in using POWER?
You may contact responsible officer via PEN account of km-admin. You can also submit your suggestion regarding any improvements to the said PEN account.
7. What are the key features of POWER?
The features of POWER can be summarised into six:
1. One-stop shop to get to Knowledge Map, POINT, Learning Portal, KM Tools, Search Engine and MyBriefcase, which is being developed.
2. Two navigation flows, i.e. Formation and Topic, helping users to retrieve information via browsing.
