Auxies receive practical smoke training |
||
Practical smoke training has been introduced to officers of the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force (HKAPF) for their Annual Continuation Training (ACT) in the current financial year. The "smoke training" aims at enabling the officers to undertake their primary role as a manpower reserve to the regular Force during an internal security situation, with the specific responsibility of guarding key points, consular premises and police stations. For the first time, smoke test and live firing of smoke weapon for CS 565 and H&W CS grenade have been introduced for auxiliary police officers at Police Tactical Unit Headquarters (PTU HQ). Led by CIP TRG AUX SUP Lo Kam-tim and training staff of AUX SUP Bureau, the first smoke test was conducted at the Smoke Chamber of PTU HQ on May 14 for a total of 174 trainees of YLDIST AUX's ACT. Three days later, live firing of smoke weapon for 40 members of YLDIST AUX was conducted at the Castle Peak Field Firing Area when each member fired one round of inert CS 565 and discharged one inert H&W CS grenade. In fact, since the last financial year, a training session on smoke weapon has been introduced into the ACT programme. The four-hour session comprises a one-hour lecture on the basic smoke theory, Federal Smoke Gun, H&W CS grenade and CS 565 ammunition, another one-hour lecture on respirator and two-hour practical training on handling of Federal Smoke Gun and CS grenade. The smoke test and live firing of smoke weapon will help improve HKAPF officers' professionalism in discharging their duties, particularly in the use of the smoke weapon for guarding key points, consular premises and police stations.
