Station Sergeant Ronald Lam Wai-keung from the Hong Kong Police Cycling Club had only one regret after taking first place in Race 8 of the Hong Kong Mountain Biking Championship on May 21. "I'm preparing for next year's World Police and Fire Games in Adelaide and I entered the novice group just to see how I would do. In the end my times were faster then some of the winners in the elite group."

Riding over a 10-km course taking in Ting Ping Shan near Sheung Shui, with mud and rain in abundant supply, Ronald secured his victory in record time. Commenting on the Championship, Mr Steve Wordsworth, Chairman of the Police Cycling Club, said: "We are planning to enter riders for a number of events in Adelaide. Building fitness, race experience and working on bike skills is crucial if we are to succeed. This was a demanding course, with steep climbs and some radical drops. The wet weather did not help. Ronald's performance is an excellent start to our preparations for Adelaide."

The Police Cycling Club holds weekly training rides and welcomes riders of all abilities. Anyone interested may contact Ronald at ronaldsir@yahoo.com.hk or Steve on 2860-6583.
