Tsz Wan Shan Division (TWSDIV), which has been in service since November 16, 1971, will cease to function as a division, with effect from July 2. However, its report room will continue to operate as a Police Reporting Centre around the clock. In 1971 Tsz Wan Shan was commanded as a sub-division by Chief Inspector Chan Fuk-hing in the capacity of Sub-Divisional Inspector. Since 1981, the division has been commanded by a superintendent. As part of the Force's Three-Year Strategic Action Plan, TWSDIV will soon amalgamate with Wong Tai Sin Division (WTSDIV), with all administrative and operational units to be consolidated in Wong Tai Sin Police Station, where the District Headquarters is presently housed. Sai Kung Division remains in the District but not part of the amalgamation project. To improve efficiency and command, all CID units will fall under the command of ADC Crime Michael Cheung Kim-ping; all operational units (including DSDS) under ADC OPS Matt Lindsay; and all support and administrative units under ADC Support Shirley Chan Mei-ching. Accordingly, all operational units will be free of administration and support tasks, allowing commanders to focus their attention more on the prevention and detection of crime. Whilst all the individual administrative and management posts in TWSDIV will be deleted, all patrol elements in the former WTSDIV and TWSDIV will be retained, thereby maintaining a strong visible police presence. Indeed, a number of new units, such as the Rural Area Patrol Unit, will be created to improve policing services. In line with local tradition, a small ceremony will be held in Wong Tai Sin Temple on June 28, to be followed by a flag-lowering ceremony at Tsz Wan Shan Police Station the following day to herald the fusion of the two divisions. |
