The Human Resources Branch of Personnel Wing conducted three seminars in PHQ Auditorium last month to enhance officers' knowledge of the objectives of the Force's human resources strategies, promotion system and promotion quality. Known as "Self Awareness of Promotion Quality for JPO", the seminars drew an overwhelming response from over 1,000 officers.

The large turnout of JPOs indicated that the seminars addressed the officers' concerns. Speaking at the opening of the seminars, Chief Superintendent (Human Resources) Chung Hung-fung reminded officers to view promotions in a wider context of continuous learning to improve their competencies. He was confident of achieving a better understanding of the fairness and transparency of the promotion system with all these seminars.

Speakers at the seminars were ADC CRM WTSDIST Cheung Kim-ping, Force Promotion Assessment Team (FPAT) Chairman of the 2005/06 PC to SGT Promotion Exercise; SP ADM NTN Yip Kin-chau, FPAT Chairman of the 2005/06 SGT to SSGT Promotion Exercise, and SP INSP HR Branch Wong Kin-wah.

SP Cheung encouraged officers to achieve better results in the PC to SGT Qualifying Examination, whilst SP Yip shared his views of personal improvement and development with the audience. Meanwhile, SP Wong answered many queries on the promotion system and policy.

The audiences also used the opportunity to clarify some issues, including the skills of writing self-assessment and techniques of answering questions during promotion interviews. They also had benefited from frank exchanges of views.

Also speaking at the seminars were five officers who have secured recommendation for promotion in the 2004/05 and 2005/06 promotion exercises. They are SSGT Kam Kwok-cheong, SGT Cheung Chiu-tung, PCs Chan Yat-fung and Yeung Tat-choi and WDPC Chan Mei-lin. Speaking of their personal experiences in preparing for and attending promotion interviews, they encouraged fellow officers to pursue lifelong learning and strive for continuous improvement, so as to take up future challenges.

The seminars have been videotaped and MFCs, TSROs and CIP ADMs will receive copies of the video for training purposes.
