In the bi-lingual package, in Chinese and English, there are several distinctive features that offer a big assistance to each and every Force member when they embrace KM.
Overview
The Overview Section provides users with a basic understanding of the key concepts and tools applied in the KM field. The key concepts, such as tacit knowledge and explicit knowledge, are well explained with examples of daily life. The tools are also illustrated with the introduction of their related Force KM tools.
Scenario-based Learning
This part of the package provides vivid and lively examples of how KM can be applied in daily work. There are a total of six scenarios in the package, comprising three operational scenarios and three management scenarios. In each scenario, users are actually exposed to a wide range of situations, which they may have to face in their work. Through the use of the relevant KM tools, users are able to solve the problems or challenges presented in the scenarios.
Unlike lecture notes or powerpoint slides, which feed users with excessive loads of information, the package consists of games, exploration-based virtual work scenes, multiple-choice questions and video clips interview. This two-way learning method makes users feel more involved throughout the package.
Resources and FAQ
There is also a section on reference resources in the package. By accessing the section, users will be able to download useful material relating to KM, such as KM Development Papers, KM Updates and relevant presentation files.
To enable Force members to understand more about the development of KM in the Force, an FAQ section is also available in the package. The questions that are displayed in the package will be updated to reflect the hot topics of KM development.
Quiz
After studying the whole package, users will be able to test their understanding of KM by attempting a quiz. By answering KM-related issues in the format of multiple-choice questions, users will have a grasp of the right concepts about tools and skills.
Video
The package has about 20 one-minute video clips, which feature elaborations on KM concepts and tools by Police officers ranging from top management to junior police officers, and by external well-known KM consultants and practitioners.
Accessing e-learning package
As recognised by the Hong Kong Productivity Council, the Force KM eLearning package is the first of its kind in the HKSAR Government. It is easy to navigate to the package by following the following steps:
1. Simply go to POINT or POINT From Home and then click the KM button to access POWER.
2. Click the KM tools hexagon in the POWER homepage.
3. Click the menu named "e-learning" at the top banner and click the e-learning hexagon.
4. Login: Prefix your UI number with R for Regular or A for Auxiliary or C for Civilian and Contract Staff
To better utilise the network bandwidth of the Force, users are advised to access the package after work or use the broadband service at home.
Competition
To arouse KM awareness in the Force, the KM Co-ordinating Committee is organising a "KM eLearning Top-Scorer" competition.
The competition will be open to all serving Force members, including regular, civilian, auxiliary and contract staff. (Please pay attention to the login details mentioned above).
The five top scorers in the three management scenarios and five top scorers in the three operation scenarios will receive USB Memory Stick. (If the same top score is obtained among participants, the prize will go to the officer who obtains the score first.)
The deadline for registering a score is October 31. For more details, check the running banner at POWER.
