Incidents of biochemical attacks occasionally happen around the world, often with serious and mass casualties. To update frontline officers on the knowledge of biochemical incidents, EU NTN organised a seminar entitled "Medical Treatment Procedure in Handling Biochemical Victim" last month.

Conducted by Dr Jimmy Chan, Honorary Medical Advisor of PTU and the Police College, and Chief of Service of A & E Department of Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital (AHNH) at AHNH's auditorium, the seminar drew about 150 officers from various operational units, including SDU, ASU, PTU, EU and QRF.

Following the opening address by SP EU NTN To Wai-ching, Dr Chan introduced the classification of some common biochemical substances, their characteristics, and effect on humans. He also explained the medical treatment procedures in handling casualties resulting from exposure to biochemical substances, and talked in details about the decontamination procedure and the significance of wearing protective gear.

At the end of the seminar, the attendants toured the decontamination facility established at AHNH's A & E Department, the only permanent decontamination facility in Hong Kong. They were pleased to have updated their professional knowledge of biochemical incidents.

SSP OPS NTN Yu Man-wah presented souvenirs to Dr Chan and his staff in appreciation of their assistance.

The seminar focuses on the characteristics of biochemical substances and their effect on humans
