'We want you!' - Barry Smith |

The Hong Kong Police Rugby Club is anxious to attract new blood to form a third team. Rugby is a sport that has a lot to offer, and club chairman Barry Smith has issued the following appeal to potential players. "So the soccer World Cup has ended and no doubt you have seen more than enough of players diving in the penalty box, rolling around feigning injury and shouting at match officials. Before you give up on sport entirely you may consider turning to a game where players hide injuries in fear of being taken off the pitch and refer to the referee as 'Sir'. Yes, I'm talking about rugby, a sport that embodies skill, fitness, aggression and experiences, and camaraderie off the pitch unrivalled in any other sport. We tour abroad every year. No doubt you are familiar with rugby through the world famous Hong Kong Sevens which is played out locally every year but did you know that the record for the greatest number of appearances for Hong Kong both at 7's and 15's is held by two serving police officers? They are Ian Strange and Dave Lewis respectively. Did you also know that in the World Police and Fire Games in Barcelona in 2003 the Hong Kong Police took silver medal after beating France and Australia?
Right on your own doorstep at the PSRC, home of the Hong Kong Police Rugby Club, one of the oldest clubs in rugby history in Hong Kong. We train every Tuesday night at 6 pm and welcome first time players. We currently field two teams and are looking to starting a third team who will play in a lower division with other players of similar ability. So why not give it a go, you can even wear your old soccer boots. See you there." | |||
