Eye - opener for Fight Crime Ambassadors |

For 15 young people aged 14 to 24, their eight-day trip to Australia last month as Hong Kong's Fight Crime Ambassadors was an eye-opener. While in Melbourne and Sydney, they visited some police units, gained an insight into police training and crime prevention initiatives, and met Australian youths. The Fight Crime Ambassadors won the trip as winners of the "Hang Seng Bank - Help the Police Fight Youth Crime Competition 2006". During a meet-the-media session shortly before their departure from Sydney, they spoke to representatives from newspapers, TV and radio about the competition, their mission as Fight Crime Ambassadors, their experiences of meeting members of the Police and Community Youth Club (PCYC) in Sydney, and the differences and similarities in the outlook and values of life between the youths of Hong Kong and Australia. Upon their return from Australia, two of the Fight Crime Ambassadors, Melody Ching (20) and Alvin Fong (14), said the Fight Crime Ambassadors were given "a very warm reception by very friendly police officers". "The Australian police officers have gone to great lengths and made very nice arrangements to make us feel at home!" they noted.
