On the bright afternoon of September 27, the 25th Henry Shield Relay Race took place at the Aberdeen Reservoir with a record number of teams participating. With up to 62 teams of veteran runners representing different formations, the race was as thrilling and breath-taking as any other major sports events held by the Force. This year, the locations of the Starting Point, Hand-over Zone and Finishing Point of the race have been slightly adjusted to ensure the safety of the increased number of runners. All runners - four for men team and three for women team - were required to finish a 3.7 km steep and twisting course at the Aberdeen Lower Reservoir. All of them did their best in the race. The PTU HQ team, which comprised SGT Leung Yat, SGT Poon Fok-chiu, SGT Wong Wing-kuen and ASGT Lee Sai-cheong, set a new record for Category G (Men Senior 35-39) at 49' 30", almost two minutes 30 seconds faster than the old record of 51' 56" also by PTU HQ in 1998. Western District Commander Chiu Wai-yin officiated at the race before a large gathering of guests and supporters. Other guests of honour included Director of Operations Yam Tat-wing, Hong Kong Island Regional Commander Hung Hak-wai, Central District Commander Wong Chi-hung, Tuen Mun District Commander Ng Ka-sing, and Commercial Crime Bureau Chief Superintendent Ng Sai-kuen. After the race, the Police Athletics Club invited the guests of honour to present awards to the winning teams. The Club also took the opportunity to thank all the participating runners and helping staff for contributing to the success of the 25th Anniversary Race.
