Interval training for long distance run

Most long-distance runners would use interval training to enhance their sense of speed, improve their endurance or strengthen endurance to increase speed. Normally, the same distance and resting time are usually set in interval training, e.g. setting running distance at 1km with two minutes between each interval.

To get more "fun" during training, the training pattern can be slightly changed by decreasing the time to 10 seconds between each interval for the same distance, or increasing the running distance, i.e. 400m to 600m, 800m and 1km, with the time between each interval remaining at two minutes. Alternatively, the running distance and the time between each interval can even be changed differently.

Furthermore, interval training can be based on time instead of distance, e.g. running for 30 minutes with two minutes between each interval. It is important to gradually increase the intensity of training by setting the running distance, frequency of training and time between each interval.
