Third victory in a row for KWTDIST DIT |

The District Investigation Team (DIT) 6 of Kwai Tsing District (KWTDIST) has won the New Territories South (NTS) Region Best DIT Award for the third time in a row, despite the fact that competition is getting tougher. To stave off unwanted speculation on KWTDIST's three consecutive victories since the award competition was rolled out early in 2005, NTS Senior Superintendent (Crime), Mr Chan Kwok-keung stressed that selection of the winning team by the adjudicating panel was "open, fair and impartial". Apart from Mr Chan himself, the panel comprised NTS Deputy Regional Commander, the Deputy District Commander from each of the five NTS Districts and Superintendent (Crime) (Administation and Support). According to Mr Chan, the standards of the DITs in the five NTS Districts are very close, and it will be more difficult for any team to clinch the award in future. DIT 6 was known as DVIT 4 before amalgamation of Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi Divisions, having clinched the half-yearly Best DVIT Award twice in 2005. The award was renamed Best DIT Award after the amalgamation. NTS Regional Commander, Mr Tang How-kong, presented certificates to the members of the winning team as over 300 crime stream officers from NTS turned up at the Region's annual "CID Night" in PSRC on November 30 to congratulate the winners, share the lighter side of their work, crack jokes, boast achievements and sample PSRC's delicacies. As having been nominated by its own District Commander for the award competition is already an achievement, each of the other four competing DITs was presented with certificates by their District Commanders at the award presentation ceremony. Re-iterating that the award serves as recognition and encouragement for DIT members, SSP Chan noted that DITs are having an increasingly heavy workload and their work has become increasingly difficult. "The ways they discharge their duties would have an impact on the image of the Force, especially in handling cases of domestic violence on the frontline. "As SSP CRM, I'm most happy to see members of competing DITs enjoy working in a small but compact team structure, which operates with co-ordination, mutual trust and teamwork. "You can see members of the competing teams are very proud of their achievements. I hope all DIT members will continue their good work; their efforts will certainly be recognised by the management," he added. Comments by winning team The leader of the winning team, Senior Inspector Chow Chun-choi, said that while the encouragement by his District management had motivated his team members to get their day-to-day work done, the important factors for winning the Best DIT Award were members' team work, mutual help and a serious attitude towards their roles. His view was echoed by the team Sergeant, Mr Cheng Shing-yan, who described the team as a "happy family" with every member pitching in on every job. "For example, even the file of a simple case of shop theft contains different hand writing. It means everybody helps out in the case, and the end results are better efficiency and harmonious relationship." Another team member, Senior Police Constable Ma Yiu-tan, said he had discerned a change in the work culture among crime stream officers. He recalled: "I've been in CID for 18 years. In the old days, I had to rely on myself to get my jobs done, but nowadays, the situation is quite different, and I can expect not only support for my work by my colleagues but also a big help when I've got a personal problem. Furthermore, we often get together after work to get re-charged or doing exercises to relieve work pressure." A third member, Woman Police Constable Leung Ka-wai, pointed out that a woman police officer in a DIT team was capable of doing not only the administrative work of the team but also the work of an Investigation Officer(IC). She advised Uniform Branch woman police officers to sample DIT work, which she added, "might give you experience you'll never get in your life". "When you can help out with operations as the only female IO in the team, you'll get a lot of satisfaction!" she noted. A fourth member, Sergeant Wong Chin-cheung who joined the winning team in April, said that by the time he joined the team everything had been already on track and there was a very good working system, making his work much easier. "As a newcomer, I noticed that the team members worked very closely and were never afraid of challenges. I'm glad to work in the team and to carry forward its spirit of co-operation," said SGT Wong.
