Twelve officers have been presented with Gold Award Certificates and another 51 officers with Letters of Appreciation for their contributions to the Police Staff Suggestions Scheme. In addition, the Gold Award Certificate recipients have also received cash prizes of $500 to $1,000. The prizes were presented at a ceremony held at Arsenal House Auditorium on November 22 by Director of Management Services Mike Dowie, Police Civil Secretary Pang King-leung, Hong Kong Island Regional Commander Hung Hak-wai, Acting Assistant Commissioner (Service Quality) David Gunton and Acting Assistant Commissioner (Support) Choi Wong Fung-yee. Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, Mr Dowie said that since its inception in 1994, the suggestion scheme had received wide and enthusiastic support, with more than 5,000 suggestions received over the past 12 years, including the 600 submissions received this year alone. "I am extremely impressed with the innovation and hard work shown by colleagues when making their submissions. They are all obviously committed to improving the way we do things," he noted. Mr Dowie pointed out that the Police Staff Suggestions Committee selected the award winners after careful scrutiny and deliberation. In doing so, the committee considered various factors such as originality, enhancement to operational efficiency, better utilisation of resources and effort put into a suggestion. Mr Dowie also thanked members of the committee for making the scheme so successful.
