A three-member Police Team shined at the Hong Kong Powerlifting and Weightlifting Association's recent Hong Kong Benchpress Championships held at the Mong Kok Indoor Games Hall, with each member taking first or second place in three events.
In the 67.5kg category, Inspector Chiu Mun-cheung, from Sub-unit 3 TW DIST, took first place in the open category. Loss of weight forced him to switch to the 67.5 kg category from the 75kg category, on which he is getting his eyes for the 2007 Asian Benchpress Championships, to be held for the first time held in Hong Kong, and is confident of winning a medal in the master category. In the 75kg category, Police Constable Chan Chun-por, also from Sub-unit 3 TW DIST, took second place in the open category. He is the rising star of the Powerlifting team. In the 90kg category, Sergeant Wong Wai-kwan took the first place, his best result since joining the powerlifting team in 2002 led by Senior Inspector Dave Donnelly. He lifted the same weight as his competitor, but had a lighter weight. Over 100 lifters competed in various categories in front of their families and friends who filled up all spectator stands. The next event on the calendar is the Asian Bench-press championships scheduled to take place at Queen Elizabeth Stadium later this year.
