Mentors appointed to groom JPOs |

Following a recruitment exercise, Kwai Tsing District Commander Ip Lau-chuen has formally appointed six inspectorate officers from the District to take up the role of mentor under the "Development Programme for Junior Officers with Potential" which was introduced last year. Response to the programme in the District is encouraging, with 19 JPOs taking part in the programme. As mentors, the six inspectorate officers will share with the JPOs their experiences on management, leadership, language and communication skills. As mentees, the JPOs will work hard to broaden their horizons, enhance their professional competence, and build up a firm foundation for assuming heavier responsibilities in the future. To brief the JPOs on the development programme and preparation for promotion to the inspectorate, Chief Inspector Edmund Lee from Personnel Wing gave a detailed talk and answered questions from the floor on January 12, at the invitation of Kwai Tsing District. Following the talk, three officers, having successfully advanced to the inspectorate from the ranks, shared their success stories with the audience. After this, Kwai Tsing Deputy District Commander Andy Lovatt and Divisional Commanders Bruce Hawkins and Phillip Bouttle conducted an "English Night" when the JPOs took part in a series of interesting games and expressed themselves eloquently in English. Mr Hawkins also took the opportunity to talk about English slang that is seldom taught in classroom, and the JPOs found this most valuable. Finally, the activity ended in laughter and everybody was eagerly looking forward to the next session.
