The Police Tactical Unit Headquarters (PTU HQs) played host on December 22 to a charity competition in aid of "Operation Santa Claus 2006", which is one of the many charity fund-raising campaigns supported by PTU HQs. Having become a favourite team-building programme in the PTU training calendar, the event was supported by various units, including the PTU Headquarters Team, Special Duties Unit, Quick Reaction Force and PTU Foxtrot Company (under PTU training). Contributions have also been received from all the Regional PTU Companies.
A series of sporting events and challenges began immediately after Deputy PTU Commandant Duncan McCosh had kicked off the competition. The first event was the "Saxon Pull", in which teams, each comprising eight officers, competed in pulling a 9.5-tone Saxon armoured vehicle along PTU's drill square. Following this was the "Miraculous Chemist", which was a game to test officers' intelligence with a simulated combat participated by officers dressed in Red Man protective training suits, the "Redman Rumble". Teamwork was the name of the game in all the events of the day and this was best demonstrated when all competitors worked with concerted efforts to eliminate their opponents. The "Blind Leading the Blind" and "The Sedan Chair Race" events were full of fun with all units participating enthusiastically and raising handsome contributions. The charity event culminated with an auction, the proceeds of which also went to the "Operation Santa Claus". All in all, it was a very successful event with a lot of fun, and the serious aim of raising funds in aid of "Operation Santa Claus 2006" was achieved when over $73,000 were raised. More is expected to come in.
