Preserving and handling traffic accident scenes

Preserving and handling scenes of traffic accidents will be the topic of the next Force Training Day. For this topic, Learning and Development Support Centre has designed a training package under the auspices of Traffic Kowloon East, Traffic Kowloon West, Police Driving and Traffic Training Division and the Government Laboratory.

The package is aimed at enhancing officers' capability in handling the necessary procedures, including completing the Pol 284A accurately and taking appropriate action at the scene of serious traffic accidents.

In addition, the package will also briefly define what is Traffic Accident Reconstruction. There are two training scenarios for group discussion, one on handling a minor traffic accident when Pol 284A is required to be completed and the other on handling a serious traffic accident.

To help Formations prepare for their Training Days, Force Training Officer, Superintendent Cheung Kam-chuen, conducted seven train-the-trainer workshops related to the training package for a total of 496 officers between January 30 and February 7, including Training and Staff Relations Officers (TSRO) and District Training Team members.

The training package will be rolled out to frontline officers according to the schedules set by their TSROs after the Chinese New Year. Training manual and a PowerPoint presentation have been uploaded to the Training Days Resource Bank on POINT.

Other Training Day topics for 2007 are Disaster Handling (April-June), Interception of Communications and Covert Surveillance (June-August), Information Security (August-October) and Dealing with Suspects (October-December).

Training Day was introduced Force-wide in November 1998. According to FPM 52-15, a minimum of five Training Days will be held each year. For each Training Day, a two-hour session is designated to topics with Force-wide implication, and the Policy and Coordination Committee on Force Training and Development will select the topics annually in advance.

In 2006, five Training Day topics were introduced, namely, Communication Skills for Quality Services (January), Counter Terrorism (March), Handling of Violent Persons Under the Influence of Drink or Drugs (May), Handling of Domestic Violence (July), and Police Integrity (September).

A group activity in progress
