Over 5,000 members of the Auxiliary Police and their families enjoyed a fun-filled and action-packed day when they participated in the 6th Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Sports and Family Day on January 21 at the Police Sports and Recreation Club.
The day was packed with a variety of events catering for different tastes, including sports competitions, performances by the popular Police Dog Unit and the Auxiliary Police Band, as well as a friendly football match between senior police officers and ladies from Cathay Pacific Airways. The crowd was also treated to various game stalls and display booths set by the other disciplined services, Police Tactical Unit, Road Safety Unit of Traffic Kowloon West, Police Handicraft Club and Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Association. Apart from Auxiliary Police members, elite sportsmen from the Force, Immigration, Correctional Services, Fire Services, Civil Aid Service, Customs and Excise, Auxiliary Medical Services and St John Ambulance Brigade also took part in battles of tug-of-war, basket-shooting and indoor rowing. Besides vying for trophies, the participating teams had their friendship cemented, which was one of the objectives of the annual event. The day culminated with Hong Kong Island Region Auxiliary winning the overall Regional Championship. Prizes were presented by Commissioner Tang King-shing, Acting Director of Fire Services Lo Chun-hung, Commissioner of St. John Ambulance Brigade Chan Cheuk-sang, Chairman of Immigration Department Staff Club Ho Siu-hung, Chairman of Correctional Services Department Sports Association Lee Sheung, Principal Operations & Training Officer of Civil Aid Service Cheung Tat-yin, Senior Staff Officer of Customs and Excise Department Hui Chiu-chun, Principal of Kowloon Tong School (Secondary Section) Chan Ming-wah, Cathay Pacific Airways Director Service Delivery Quince Chong and Auxiliary Police Commandant Kwok Chi-shun.
