Assistant Commissioner (Support) Blaine Hoggard presented medals and commendations to 36 staff members of Support Wing, who have chalked up a total of over 600 years of service to the Force. The awards included Long Service Clasps, Long Service Medals, Meritorious Service Awards and Commanding Officer's Commendations.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony on March 29, Mr Hoggard pointed out that over the past 12 months, Support Wing had continued to provide the best possible quality service to frontline officers in the form of operational and administrative support. He noted the recent acquisition of new pistols for crime officers; and the work that had been done by Traffic Headquarters and the Licensing Division in playing their part in the reduction of traffic accidents; and the closure of a number of licensed premises that had previously been crime black spots. Both were prime examples of Support Wing working in close partnership with Regions and Districts to bring about positive results, he added.

The Occupational Safety and Health Division had secured two gold awards at the 5th OSH Council Awards ceremony and the Transport Division had received a "Total Caring Award" from the Social Welfare Department in recognition of efforts in providing employment opportunities for the handicapped.

He emphasised Support Wing's role pursuant to the Commissioner's Operational Priorities and the importance of Support Wing's policy planning and development initiatives in furtherance of Force objectives.

In conclusion, he thanked Support Wing staff for their sustained dedication and professionalism.
