The scheme is open to police children (aged 12 to 21 on submission of application), who have never been sponsored by the Police Welfare Fund for attending summer courses. The sponsored places will be allocated at the ratio of one for children of SSP & SP, nine for CIP, SIP & IP, and 83 for JPOs. The deadline for applications is mid-day on Saturday, May 26. Parents and children may choose their own courses on the Mainland or overseas (excluding Macao and Taiwan) and organising bodies, subject to the endorsement of the Force. General sightseeing tours will not be supported. Police children need to submit copies of their school reports for the previous academic year (2005/06) as supporting documents for above average performance at school. Ballot will be held if the number of applicants exceeds the available quota. If both parents are Police Officers, only one of them may apply for their children. The maximum amount for a successful application is $3,000 for children of JPO, $2,000 for CIP, SIP and IP, and $1,000 for SSP and SP, or 70 per cent of the course fee, whichever is the lesser. The ballot will take place at 10:30 am on June 8 in the Personnel Services and Staff Relations (PS&SR) Branch Conference Room, Arsenal House, PHQ, and announcement of the results will be made by PEN and individual notices. The course programme must be organised by a reputable bona fide institution or organisation, subject to the endorsement of the Force. Decisions made by the Force are final. Successful applicants will have to submit course details and confirmation of a place to CSP PS&SR (Attn.: EO SUP 2) not later than June 29. Any successful applicant who has not attended a course for reasons not accepted by the Force has to refund the sponsorship in full. On returning to Hong Kong, participants may be called upon to assist in events related to the MOSCS Scheme. Enquiries can be made on PS&SR Branch hotline 2860-3200 or by contacting Marcus Lee, EO SUP 2 at 2860-3332.
