The Border District has revamped the Boundary Command Centre in a bid to improve the management and deployment of resources for tackling illegal immigration and cross-boundary smuggling between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Located at the Man Kam To Operational Base in Ta Kwu Ling, the revamped centre opened on April 12, amalgamating the divisional command posts of Sha Tau Kok, Ta Kwu Ling and Lok Ma Chau. New Territories North Regional Commander Cheung Siu-wah officiated at the opening ceremony before a large gathering of guests, who included officials from the Guangdong Province Border Defence Bureau, Shenzhen Municipal Government and Shenzhen Frontier Inspection Service, as well as members of the District Fight Crime Committees in North District and Yuen Long District. The main functions of the Boundary Command Centre are to monitor the 35-km boundary fence with the aid of advanced technology and deploy officers to target areas to fight illegal immigration and cross-boundary smuggling.
