US Consulate-General in HK |
On April 24, a staff member of the consulate phoned APTDIST, requesting for assistance to locate an elderly American citizen, who was reported missing shortly after arriving at the Hong Kong International Airport on the previous day. As the missing person's mental age is that of a three years old, all officers on the beat were alerted and a search party was formed to comb the airport and its vicinity. About an hour later, officers spotted the missing person outside the airport, earning the consulate's praise.

PCs Fong Kwok-keung and Ko Chi-chung from T KW |
Woman taxi driver |
The woman taxi driver wrote to SSP T KW to thank the officers for their attitude and enthusiasm in handling her case in which her taxi was hit by a private car. She said PC Fong was well prepared when she went to his office to give statements, and PC Ko, who attended the scene of the traffic accident, had subsequently located the private car and its driver - a big help to the case. What she found most impressive was officers' teamwork she observed while giving statements. "I truly appreciate their attitude and enthusiasm. If every officer were like them, Hong Kong would shine more brightly," part of her letter said.

Parents of a deceased person |
Following the discovery of a deceased person and police responding to the scene, SIP Lee had the unpleasant and unenviable job of informing the deceased's parents who were overseas. The parents were extremely appreciative of the compassionate and caring way that SIP Lee had handled the task. They said it was a "good job done" in trying circumstances and reflected credit on him and indeed the Force as a whole.

SPC Mok Ka-yu from CCDIV |
Overseas visitor |
In a letter to the Force after leaving Hong Kong, the visitor said he and his friend were on vacation on Lamma Island last year when the ferry departed prematurely, and they had to wait for two hours for the next ferry to Hong Kong Island. On learning their predicament, the police, in particular SPC Mok, were friendly and extremely helpful, making phone calls and giving contact information for ferry service. What he had done "helped make a stressful and frustrating situation a much more calm situation with that personal and human touch that is so needed in the world's police forces," the visitor said in his letter.
