Professor speaks on English grammar |
||
Over 200 officers, from Police Constable to Chief Inspector and civilian staff, attended a seminar on "Making English Grammar Interesting" which was conducted by Professor Gregory James, Director of the Language Centre at the University of Science and Technology at the Auditorium, PHQ, on May 15. Prof James is a renowned scholar in the field of language and linguistics, with vast experience in teaching English as a foreign language. To make English grammar interesting, he used humourous and practical examples to illustrate common grammatical mistakes. Most participants found the seminar stimulating and useful, as well as having not only raised their English standard but also broadened their knowledge in linguistics. The seminar was jointly organised by Crime Wing Headquarters and the Force Working Group on the Use of Official Languages, with the aim of enhancing English proficiency in the Force. For the benefit of those unable to attend the seminar, the organiser has uploaded Prof James' presentation onto POINT's "What's New" column.
