Police cyclists take honours in Triathlon | ||
The organisers set a demanding course, opening with a 750-metre sea swim, followed by a rolling 15-km mountain bike ride and a punishing 5.5-km hilly trail run to the finish line. Whilst smooth sea conditions allowed the competitors to hit their stride early, the bike ride proved a real challenge as many riders suffered punctures after misjudging the conditions with tyres at the wrong pressure to traverse the rocks on the technical sections of the course.
This was not a mistake the Police Team made, with a decisive win for the men's team of Station Sergeant Fong Yuk-leung, (cycling), Senior Inspector Chan Sze-tat (swim) and Sergeant Ng Chek-yin (run), who came storming home in 1:33:49. The ladies team of Woman Police Constable Ho Kit-ying (cycling) and Woman Police Constable Chow Pui-yan (swim and run) cruised in 1:52:20, beating their nearest rivals by a wide margin and setting a course record for ladies cycling.
Steve Wordsworth, Chairman of the Cycling Club, had this to say about these performances: "These are fantastic results. With hot and humid conditions, the Police teams still managed to hold their own against a very tough international field. WPC Chow even skipped over the finishing with a huge grin on her face."
