A 12-year-old girl from the Mainland

Upon returning home after visiting Hong Kong with her 75-year-old grandfather in March this year, the girl wrote to thank the officers for going to great lengths in helping her and her grandfather during their unscheduled three-day stay at the airport. Soon after their arrival at the airport, the elderly man was found missing from the terminal building. After receiving a report from the girl, the officers conducted a search and subsequently located the elderly man at a taxi stand at the airport. As the elderly man was suffering from senile disorder and the girl was too young to look after him, the officers liaised with the Airport Authority, airline staff and a travel services company to provide all necessary assistance for them. The girl's predicament was later compounded by some problems with her grandfather's travel document, forcing the pair to stay in the terminal building for three days. During this period, the officers paid visits, showed a lot of care and concern, and even brought them food and drinks when the girl ran out of money.
