Interpol (IP) Hong Kong, China and IP India participated in an "Exchange of Good Practices" programme organised and sponsored by the Interpol General Secretariat (IPSG) between May 6 and 17. With reference to the "24 Service Standards" implemented by IPSG, the programme allows participating IP members to observe and study the performances of their counterparts through an exchange of visits. Any recommendation on improvement in services will then be submitted to their respective senior management. Chief Inspector Wong Kin-yee from the Interpol Division at Liaison Bureau (LB) explained that the exchange of visits was essentially an exchange of observations and experience among Hong Kong, India and IPSG representatives for improving liaison services. "Our Bureau is striving to attain the 24 Service Standards that Interpol has established for its members since 2004 and, as agreed by our visitors, has achieved remarkable results. Nevertheless, the programme also enables officers from various jurisdictions to learn from one another through sharing of experience and work practices," he said. Mr Kweon Sun Young, Mr Tetsuya Yamamoto, both from IPSG, and Mr N S Kharayat, Additional Superintendent from IP India, visited IP Hong Kong, China to acquaint themselves with the personnel and work practices of LB and the challenges Hong Kong faces. They were greeted by Crime Headquarters Chief Superintendent Ng Sai-kuen on the last day of their visit to Hong Kong. In response to their recommendations on improvement in services, Mr Ng said: "The advice from the delegation is so valuable and constructive that LB will give serious consideration." The delegation, with Senior Superintendent Kwok Ho-fai of LB as a member, later left for New Delhi, India, to continue their visit. Said Mr Kwok: "The visit to IP India was very inspiring, allowing me to appreciate the operations of an Interpol office in such a huge and populous country where the economy is growing rapidly under a diverse linguistic and religious ambience." "It is a rare opportunity for a team of Japanese, Korean, Indian and Chinese police officers to gather together to interact and discuss liaison matters of mutual concern. We came away with a better understanding and deeper appreciation of one another," he added. The delegation has presented recommendations to Mr Vijay Shanker, Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation, and Ms Tanjua Srivastava, Deputy Inspector General of Police. Mr Kwok took the occasion to invite Mr Shanker, who is also a member of the Interpol Executive Committee, to attend the 20th Interpol Asian Regional Conference scheduled to be held in Hong Kong in March 2008.
