Mr Cheng Tan-shui, a well-known figure in the mass media, gave a presentation at the "Balances and Wisdom" seminar on the evening of July 17 at the invitation by the Psychological Services Group (PSG). His talk, titled "Ask Yourself a Good Question - Wisdom of Self-management", attracted over 250 Force members in the Auditorium of PHQ.

Opening the seminar, PS&SR Branch Acting Chief Superintendent So Kam-tong pointed out that the three-year "Balances and Wisdom" Campaign launched by PSG in 2004 had been very successful in promoting work-life balance, positive living and a caring culture among Force members. Therefore, PS&SR Branch decided to continue with the campaign. He added that the seminar represented one of the PSG's ongoing commitments to enhancing the psychological competence and mental well-being of Force members.

In his talk, Mr Cheng impressed his audience with humorous and insightful personal stories. He shared his over 30-year experience in the field of mass media, particularly those very difficult periods when he worked as a DJ and TV/film scriptwriter. He disclosed that in the face of failures, taunts and frustrations, he learned to develop a habit of asking himself a good question at the critical moment, leading him to an honest and thorough reflection on himself. The result of the reflection brought him humbleness and determination to stick to his pursuits, and eventually his various achievements in life.

During a Q&A session, the audience enthusiastically discussed with Mr Cheng about his wisdom of self-management, and gave him a thunderous applause at the end of the seminar. Perhaps, the participants would carry home the precious wisdom of asking themselves some good questions when they are on the down side of their life.

Part of Mr Cheng's presentation borders on philosophy
