Commissioner Tang King-shing, accompanied by Director of Operations Tsang Wai-hung and Director of Crime and Security Lee Ka-chiu, visited Police Constable Chu Chun-kwok at the Guangzhou General Hospital of the Guangzhou Military Command on August 3. Mr Tang was pleased that PC Chu had recovered from a fever and was making good progress in taking soft food. PC Chu was in good spirit and blinked his eyes from time to time, acknowledging CP's visit. CP praised PC Chu for his effort in rehabilitation training, and encouraged him to keep up the effort. He also met PC Chu's mother at the bedside and supported her unfailing effort to care for his son. During the visit, CP brought PC Chu two Force T-shirts for his regular outdoor activities. Visit by soccer veteran Meanwhile, on July 27 when the Manchester United Football Club team was visiting Guangzhou for exhibition matches, UK soccer veteran, Sir Bobby Charlton, visited PC Chu on behalf of the team, at the invitation of the Force management. During his half-an-hour visit, Sir Bobby gave PC Chu a lot of encouragement and brought him some souvenirs. PC Chu looked very excited about the visit, while his family was grateful for Manchester United's care and concern. Continuous assistance With grants from the Police Welfare Fund, PC Chu completed a course of 200 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) and related treatments in the Guangzhou Hospital in July this year. As a result of a recent review, and taking into consideration the views of PC Chu's family and the doctor's recommendation, the Force management has decided to continue with the grant to support PC Chu for an extended course of HBOT treatment and related treatment in Guangzhou until November this year, so as to maximise the improvements to the residual functions at the latest stage of effective brain rehabilitation period. As the number of HBOT and related medical treatments as well as tests for the extended course will be relatively less compared with those at the initial stage of the treatment course, the amount of grant will be adjusted down for the extended course. The Force management will continue to offer any other necessary assistance for PC Chu's rehabilitation.
