Memorabilia wanted for PTU's 50th Anniversary

The Police Tactical Unit (PTU) Headquarters based in Fanling is home to both the PTU and the Special Duties Unit (SDU). "The Blue Beret" is a nickname unique to the PTU and familiar to Force members, but do you know what it was called in 1958?

The SDU treads where others will not, but do you know when and why it was established?

The year 2008 will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the PTU. To showcase its history and development, a series of commemorative activities are being planned, including an exhibition, a commemorative publication, special souvenirs and an unprecedented passing out parade. In order to record the many events that the PTU has been involved in, as well as to document the changes that have occurred in the unit over the decades, an appeal is now made to serving and retired officers for pictures, stories, articles and any other memorabilia which tell the history of the PTU and SDU during the past 50 years. These items may form part of the exhibition and also be used in the commemorative publication.

Digitised copies are welcome, and any originals sent will be accorded the greatest care and attention until returned to the contributor. The contact officer for all contributions is Senior Inspector Frankie Cheung Ka-chun (Tel: 2669-6296 or email: ip-sip-va-ptu@police.gov.hk). Your help in the preparation for this most worthwhile event is very much appreciated.
