Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) hosted the Conventional Fraud and Cyber Fraud Prevention Seminar for 300 security and compliance managers from 70 local banks and financial institutions in the Auditorium in Arsenal House, PHQ, on September 7.

Delivering his opening address, Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Vincent Wong Fook-chuen highlighted the latest situation of cyber and conventional frauds in Hong Kong. He stressed that despite the changing modus operandi of fraudsters, the overall situation in Hong Kong was well contained.

The seminar then divided into two separate subject areas - conventional fraud and cyber fraud. In the Cyber Fraud Seminar, the audience was briefed on the latest "Phishing" techniques, wireless security of online transactions and security of mobile phone banking. Speakers of these subjects included representatives from Microsoft, the Professional Information Security Association and local banks.

The Conventional Bank Fraud Seminar covered loan fraud, mortgage fraud, money laundering, investment fraud, payment card fraud and the latest information on counterfeit currency. Four Inspectorate officers from various CCB Divisions acted as presenters.

The seminar provided a fantastic opportunity for strengthening the liaison between the banking industry and the Force. After its conclusion, many attendants thanked CCB for organising the event and looked forward to similar events in the future.
