A delegation of eight officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Bureau, led by Bomb Disposal Officer Yuen Hon-wing, attended a four-day Train-the-Trainer Course on Basic Fire-fighting and Pump Operation from August 21 to 24 this year.

The Fire Services Department specially designed the training course for the team leaders of the EOD's Fire, Emergency & Safeguarding Unit upon EOD's request. The aim of the course is to enhance the officers' knowledge of combustion and techniques of using various fire-fighting tools so as to strengthen their ability in training their team members in fire-fighting in their routine work.

The first two days of the course took place at the Fire Services Training School in Pat Heung, covering combustion theory, fire-fighting principles, handling a scene of person on fire and the techniques of using various types of fire-fighting tools. Demonstrations and exercises in the procedures of entering fire scenes were conducted. Officers also learned how back draught and flashover would be caused.

Training on the third and fourth days of the course was held at the EOD Depot at Mount Butler, where exercises in fire-fighting and equipment application were conducted.

To the participants, the course was very useful. It has enhanced not only their knowledge of fire, but also understanding of the fire-fighting equipment they use every day. More importantly, the course has raised the team leaders' professional ability and knowledge.
