Senior Superintendent Chiu Kai-ting of Traffic Hong Kong Island (T HKI) recently kicked off a two-day structured familiarisation programme for the five new Police Constables posted to T HKI from the Police Tactical Unit, with a talk on the roles and responsibilities of traffic policing and a new working environment.

He reiterated the importance of traffic policing and the three-pronged strategy to ensure road safety, which is one of the Commissioner's Operational Priorities for 2007, and emphasised the significance of an integrated approach towards road safety by all stakeholders. He encouraged the new officers to grasp the opportunity to understand traffic policing through practical experience, which, he noted, would broaden their future exposures and prospects.

Mr Chiu reminded the officers that independent thinking and on-the-spot decision-making were crucial to the success of traffic enforcement. Last but not least, he welcomed the newcomers to approach him direct for anything or raise any question during the SSP T HKI's Open Forum in future.

During a guided tour around the Investigation & Support Division and Enforcement and Control Division, the new officers were briefed by various section heads on their daily duties and the working relationships among relevant parties.

SSP Chiu reminds the newcomers never hesitate to approach him for anything about their new job
