The National Police Agency (NPA) of Japan has once again complimented the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau for assisting in detecting a case of criminal intimidation in which a Hong Kong resident in June last year sent a total of 10 threatening letters to Japanese officials, including Mr Taro Aso, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Shinzo Abe, an ex-Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan, and Mr Takanori Kittamura, the Consul General of the Japanese Consulate in Hong Kong. As a result of efforts by Interpol Tokyo and OCTB's intensive investigation, the resident was arrested in July last year. He was subsequently convicted on 10 counts of criminal intimidation by a District Court. On behalf of the NPA, Mr Tsuyoshi Imamura, Consul (Police Superintendent) at the Consulate-General of Japan, presented letters of appreciation and a plaque to OCTB officers at PHQ on October 16.
