YTDIST reduces OSH figures |
||
It is a commonplace for officers getting injured on duty, especially in the course of dealing with suspects and making arrests. Between 2006 and the first half of 2007, Yau Tsim District (YTDIST), one of the busiest police districts in Hong Kong, had a bigger share of the number of Occupation Safety and Health (OSH) figures than other police districts in Kowloon West Region. With a view to reducing the chance of officers getting injured on duty and raising their awareness of OSH, YTDIST's OSH Work Improvement Team has launched a campaign by organising an OSH Slogan Competition. The contest met with an encouraging response when a total of 93 individual and group contestants submitted entries of a very high standard. The best three slogans could only be chosen after the third round of careful selection by the final judging panel comprising the District Commander, Deputy District Commander and Assistant District Commander (Administration). YTDIST is pleased to see a drop in OSH incidents after the slogan contest. Besides the contest, YTDIST has been running since October last year a "Five-minute Warming-up" exercise for officers before they begin work. An "Exercise Demo" VCD has been distributed to each and every unit. YTDIST is also pleased that the exercise has reduced the OSH figures. Police Constable Wong Yuk-kei won the slogan contest, while Woman Police Constable Tam Yan-ling claimed the first place, and the second place went to Police Constables Kam Shu-hang, Ko Hoi and Chan Shing-man.
